Q3 treasury vacancy report

As we approach the end of the year, businesses are looking to ramp up their hiring. And this has bought a sense of optimism to the treasury recruitment market.

Shoots of recovery for the treasury recruitment market

H1 2024 was a slow start to the year for those looking to either hire treasury talent or to obtain a new role, and this trend continued well into the summer period. However, there are several early signs that we are moving in the right direction after what has been a tricky 12-month period, spurred on by market turmoil and global elections.

As we ended Q3, I am pleased to say the market has turned a corner at all levels. The Brewer Morris treasury recruitment team registered 40% more vacancies in September compared to any other month this year, with a record number being exclusive and retained roles. Moreover, we have also outperformed 2023 September by some way.

The rise of the Treasury Analyst

The busiest area of the market in Q3 was the Treasury Analyst level, where we are seeing a record number of new hires bought to market. This was closely followed by businesses looking to hire senior interim professionals. The businesses I am speaking with are keen to utilise these interim professionals for key transformation projects, to drive innovation and act as a catalyst for growth.

Additionally, the Senior Treasury Manager / Assistant Treasurers level has seen a decent increase in the number of opportunities coming to market. Primarily, this is down to a combination of natural attrition and newly created roles. This is having a positive impact on treasury teams. Group Treasurers are seeing the benefit in having a strong number two to support them, as this allows for succession planning and for them to focus on the more strategic elements of the role. Currently, the candidate pool at this level is strong, with excellent candidates waiting for that bigger, broader opportunity.

Exciting events for treasury professionals in financial services

The financial services sector is an area that we have seen an uptick in roles over the last three months, with a particular emphasis on treasury jobs in insurance and asset management. The Brewer Morris team has a robust network in this space. Recently, we hosted an instalment of our roundtable series, centred around treasurers in insurance. It was a very well attended event, with great discussion on market challenges, the PRA and attraction/retention of staff.

Additionally, we recently hosted our annual treasury pub quiz, which was a brilliant evening. We also attended the Women in Treasury event hosted by Treasury Today. In terms of what is coming up, we are really looking forward to our Senior Treasurers breakfast which promises to be an insightful morning.
